Congratulations to Rubi Beltran-Ruiz for spelling her way through to the second round at the state Spanish Spelling Bee. On Saturday, Rubi competed with students from across the state.
Rubi is a third grade student in Mr. Cervantes' class at Bernalillo Elementary.

2023 Lowrider Patternz Class ABQ will be taught by Rob Vanderslice, Joseph Leyba and special guest Randy Gustafson. This 2-day event will take place May 20th and 21st and will be jammed packed with hands-on learning from the masters.
Each student will receive a pre-flaked board that they will be patterning and striping themselves with help from the hands-on instructors! All materials are included in the cost of the course. Lunch free both days.

The US Coast Guard visited BHS last week to speak to students about the opportunities the Coast Guard offers.
Davin Deuel, Health Services Technician 2nd Class Petty Officer, is a 2018 BHS graduate. Davin spoke with students about the US Coast Guard Health Sciences.
Marine Science Technician 1st Class Petty Officer Thomas helped students try on the hazmat suit and talked to the students about US Coast Guard Marine Sciences and hazardous material clean up in the oceans and water ways.
Machinery Technician 1st Class Petty Office Lewis let the students board the Coast Guard boat and talked to them about the different pieces of equipment and vessels within the US Coast Guard.

The Boys and Girls Club's summer program will take place June 12th - August 4th, Mon-Fri from 8am to 5 pm. The summer program is open to Bernalillo district students who are 5 -12 years old.
The summer program for Cochiti and Santo Domingo Elementary students will be held at Santo Domingo School. The summer program for students in the Bernalillo area , including Algodones and Placitas, will be held at Bernalillo Elementary School.
The summer program will be first come first serve, and spots are limited. We highly encourage interested students to register as soon as possible. We believe that this program will provide valuable experiences for students, and we hope that they will take advantage of this opportunity.
The cost to attend this summer program will be $100 per student per week. There are ECECD Scholarship opportunities available. For more information about scholarships, please contact the Boys and Girls Club site directors.
